My debut novel, 'And Then He Kissed Me' is a gay love story set against the London mod scene in the mid-1960s. Or at least it will be. When I finish it! Right now, I have just short of 25k words of actual real prose written down. That translates to about 100 book pages. My general aim for the finished length is somewhere in the region of 80k words. I'm not married to that number though, and the book will be the length it needs to be, within the remit of normal novel length (60k-110k depending on who you ask!) So in terms of raw words, I'm nearly a third of the way through. But obviously there's editing and re-writing and bla bla bla.
My personal deadline for publishing is September 2024.
The characters are fully formed entities that are wandering about in my brain complaining that I haven't written the good bits yet! The story is pretty much in place, but will be tweaked as I go along. Oddly, the epilogue is done, in fact it was one of the first things I wrote! I always knew the boys would get their happily ever after, so I wrote it very early on.
I plan to self-publish by book through Amazon, which means it will be printed on demand and be available as an eBook as through Kindle Unlimited. Don't knock self-publishing, it's not what it used to be! It's not only the domain of vanity-published books about the history of the waiting rooms in Crewe train station anymore! (Although I bet that actually exists.) In fact there is an argument for the belief that self-publishing is overtaking traditional publishing as a means of becoming a commercially successful author. (I'm sure that blog post will come!)
